Site Spotlight: Solar Parking

Over half of the parking spots at Hillside are covered by the protection of a solar canopy. As for the other onsite parking spots are located steps away from the unit's front door- keeping residents at one with their beloved windshield scraper. 

Like most things on the Hillside site, the solar parking canopy has many functions. From capturing solar energy to powering homes and electric vehicles, rainwater collection, and protecting vehicles - the parking canopy has us swooning. It will also be one of the first pieces of the site to be erected and used to power construction equipment.

 The main parking lot canopy and the Cottage Court canopy will have 509 solar panels rated at 153 kW DC, which will annually produce about 160,000 kWh - enough to power 26 Hillside homes! The rest of the power will come from the rooftop solar arrays and the additional parking canopy on the north end of Cottage Court.
